callumc Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 The bearing in the a/c clutch pulley on my 2001, 2.3, auto have disintegrated so I'm wondering where, or if, I can buy only a replacement clutch pulley and not the whole damn compressor?!! Alternatively I'm thinking of just replacing the bearings in the pulley.........any suggestions? Thanks,Callum Quote
MrT Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 I found a re-manufactured compressor cheaper than just a new clutch pulley when mine failed several years ago. Quote
callumc Posted April 5, 2011 Author Report Posted April 5, 2011 Thanks but where did you get it from? Quote
MrT Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 Motor Climate UK or Compressortech and this was 5 years ago and still going strong. Quote
billywizzo Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 HiNot sure if this will help but I managed to replace the pulley and electromagnet on my old mk1 galaxy aircon compressor.I am sure if you can do it on a mk1 you could do it on a mk2.I got it from a ford dealer as it was the only place to get it from. gregers Posted April 5, 2011 Report Posted April 5, 2011 i had my clutch replaced whilst insitu,i obtained a doner compressor and we used the bits from that, only because on mine the clutch plate had workeditself loose and the centre hole became elongated and fell off. Quote
callumc Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks to all for your help. Another question! Not being much of a car mechanic can I replace the compressor and not get it re-pressurised? The A/c is never used anyway!! Callum Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Hi There You could just change compressor and not re gas, the clutch will not engage without gas pressure in the system although not recommended if you decided at a later date to re gas. Quote
Goofygolfer Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 if your never going to use the air con why not source a shorter belt and by pass the compressor? Quote
